The short answer
- iPhone: Apple requires at least one screenshot for an iPhone with Dynamic Island. The size most teams design at is 1320 × 2868 (6.9″); 1290 × 2796 (6.7″) and 1206 × 2622 (6.3″) are also accepted.
- iPad (if your app runs on iPad): at least one screenshot at 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 (13″).
- Format: JPEG or PNG, no alpha channel or transparency.
- Quantity: 1 to 10 screenshots per device size.
- Scaling: if your UI is the same across device sizes and languages, you can upload only the highest required resolution and App Store Connect scales it down for the smaller sizes.
Portrait and landscape are both accepted: for landscape, swap the two numbers (for example 2868 × 1320). Apple updates this list whenever new devices ship, so check the official screenshot specifications before a release. This page was last checked on 10 October 2026.
iPhone screenshot sizes
Apple groups iPhones into display classes. Upload at any accepted size in a class and it is used for every device in that class. If a class is missing, Apple falls back to a scaled version of the nearest class, as shown in the last column.
| Display class | Example devices | Accepted sizes (portrait, px) | If not provided |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamic Island, large | iPhone Air, 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max, 16 Plus, 15 Pro Max, 15 Plus, 14 Pro Max | 1320 × 2868 (6.9″) 1290 × 2796 (6.7″) 1260 × 2736 | Scaled from Face ID, large |
| Dynamic Island, medium | iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17, 16 Pro, 16, 15 Pro, 15, 14 Pro | 1206 × 2622 (6.3″) 1179 × 2556 (6.1″) | Scaled from Face ID, large |
| Face ID, large | iPhone 14 Plus, 13 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max, 11 Pro Max, 11, XS Max, XR | 1284 × 2778 (6.7″) 1242 × 2688 (6.5″) | Scaled from Dynamic Island, large |
| Face ID, medium | iPhone 17e, 16e, 14, 13, 13 mini, 12, 12 mini, 11 Pro, XS, X | 1170 × 2532 (6.1″) 1125 × 2436 (5.8″) 1080 × 2340 (5.4″) | Scaled from Dynamic Island, medium |
| Home button, large | iPhone 8 Plus, 7 Plus, 6S Plus, 6 Plus | 1242 × 2208 (5.5″) | Scaled from Face ID, medium |
| Home button, medium | iPhone SE (2nd, 3rd gen), 8, 7, 6S, 6 | 750 × 1334 (4.7″) | Scaled from Home button, large |
| Home button, 4″ | iPhone SE (1st gen), 5S, 5C, 5 | 640 × 1096 (no status bar) 640 × 1136 (with status bar) | Scaled from Home button, medium |
| Home button, 3.5″ | iPhone 4S, 4 | 640 × 920 (no status bar) 640 × 960 (with status bar) | Scaled from Home button, 4″ |
For landscape, swap width and height. The 4″ and 3.5″ classes also list landscape sizes (1136 × 600 or 640, and 960 × 600 or 640). Apple has also announced a foldable class, listed in its table as iPhone Duo (1398 × 2034 outer display, 2007 × 2853 inner display). Apple's note says screenshots for it become required for apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later, from April 2027. Check Apple's page for the current wording.
iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max screenshot sizes
Apple's current list names two iPhone 18 models. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is in the Dynamic Island, large class, so you can upload 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736. The iPhone 18 Pro is in the Dynamic Island, medium class, so you can upload 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556. If you already have screenshots at those sizes, you do not need to make new ones for the iPhone 18 series. We will update this page when Apple adds more models.
iPad screenshot sizes
| Display | Example devices | Accepted sizes (portrait, px) |
|---|---|---|
| 13″ (required if your app runs on iPad) | iPad Pro (M5, M4 and earlier 12.9″ models), iPad Air (M4, M3, M2) | 2064 × 2752 2048 × 2732 |
| 12.9″ | iPad Pro (2nd generation) | 2048 × 2732 |
| 11″ | iPad Pro 11″, iPad Air 11″, iPad (A16, 10th gen), iPad mini | 1488 × 2266 1668 × 2420 1668 × 2388 1640 × 2360 |
| 10.5″ | iPad Pro 10.5″, iPad Air (3rd gen), iPad (7th to 9th gen) | 1668 × 2224 |
| 9.7″ | Older iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini models | 1536 × 2008 (no status bar) 1536 × 2048 (with status bar) 768 × 1004 and 768 × 1024 (legacy) |
For landscape, swap width and height. If you do not provide the 12.9″ or 11″ sizes, Apple scales the 13″ screenshots. The 10.5″ class scales from 12.9″, and 9.7″ scales from 10.5″.

Rules that get screenshots rejected
Do
- Export as PNG or JPEG at an accepted size from the tables above.
- Show the app in use: real screens, with real content in them.
- Keep text large enough to read at thumbnail size in search results.
- Use the same story and order for every localization, then translate the headlines.
- Check every screenshot against the App Store Review Guidelines before you submit.
Don't
- Don’t upload images with an alpha channel or transparent areas.
- Don’t send a size that is not on Apple’s list. App Store Connect will refuse it.
- Don’t use only title art, a log-in page or a splash screen.
- Don’t crop a phone screenshot to fit an iPad slot. Make a real iPad version if your app runs on iPad.
- Don’t show devices or features your app does not have.
How to make them without resizing by hand
Designing every size separately is slow. A common approach is to design once at the largest accepted size, then let App Store Connect scale it down, which Apple allows when your UI is the same across devices. Screentrino is built for this workflow: pick one of 79 templates, add your captures and headlines, and export screenshots ready for the stores. You can try it free in the app.

Frequently asked questions
What size should App Store screenshots be?
Apple requires at least one screenshot for an iPhone with Dynamic Island, and 1320 × 2868 (6.9″) is the size most teams design at. Other accepted iPhone sizes include 1290 × 2796 (6.7″) and 1206 × 2622 (6.3″). If your app runs on iPad, you also need a 13″ iPad screenshot at 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732.
Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size?
No. If your UI is the same across device sizes and localizations, Apple lets you upload only the highest required resolution and App Store Connect scales it down automatically. You can upload size-specific screenshots instead if you want them.
What file format do App Store screenshots need to be?
JPEG, JPG or PNG. Images cannot have an alpha channel or transparency.
How many screenshots can I upload to the App Store?
At least one and up to 10 per device size.
What size are iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max screenshots?
Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the Dynamic Island (large display) class, which accepts 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 and 1260 × 2736. The iPhone 18 Pro is in the Dynamic Island (medium display) class, which accepts 1206 × 2622 and 1179 × 2556. Screenshots you already made at those sizes work.
Can I upload landscape screenshots?
Yes. Apple accepts both portrait and landscape. For landscape, swap the width and height of the portrait size.
